Flash Fireworks

FAQs

Flash Fireworks services Melbourne and Victoria.

We require a minimum of 7 days notice to submit Fireworks Discharge Notification notice to WorkSafe, who is Victoria’s explosives authority. We also notify the local council, shire and other relevant bodies, such as the fire authority. These authorities may require longer notice periods, so it is always best to talk to us as soon as possible.

If your display is on or near port or river waters and the fireworks could be confused with distress signals, Flash Fireworks must give written notice to the body that administers the relevant area of water at least 7 days' before the display date. Talk to us as soon as possible so all paperwork can be arranged ahead of time.

We can produce a show to suit your budget and welcome the opportunity to provide a free quote for your event.

There is no ‘one size fits all’ answer to this question, because each show is tailored to the individual requirements of our clients, the event, and the site. The cost of a fireworks display depends on many factors including:

  • duration of show
  • time of show/s
  • pyrotechnician/s labour
  • product choice (type of effects)
  • location (travel distance)
  • costs associated with obtaining permits and approvals & safety and operational matters
  • pre-site inspection
  • consultation with client
  • clean up & safe disposal post show

Yes. After the display we perform a thorough tidy-up of the site. All waste is recycled or disposed of thoughtfully and safely.

Flash Fireworks complies with separation distances outlined in Regulation 155 of the Dangerous Goods (Explosives) Regulations 2011.

If the distance from people or property is less than those outlined in the regulations, Flash Fireworks will request approval in writing from WorkSafe for your event. WorkSafe will email a letter of approval if they are satisfied that appropriate safety measures are in place.

For aerial fireworks displays, minimum distances vary according to nominal shell diameter. 50 meters is generally sufficient, however, we will undertake a site survey for your event.

For shows that do not contain aerial shells, such as indoor displays using theatrical fireworks, 10 to 30m is needed for clearance, depending on the type of firework. Flash Fireworks takes particular care when using fireworks in enclosed spaces, such as reception centres where there are large crowds.

For consideration to your neighbours and the general public, WorkSafe generally issues permits up until 9pm for outdoor fireworks displays.

Neighbours and nearby businesses must be notified in writing of a planned fireworks display at least 7 days prior to the event.

Flash Fireworks can supply a Display Notification template for you to print and distribute.

We can also take care of the notification process for an additional fee.

The Display Notification template supplied by Flash Fireworks (for you to print and distribute) will provide a warning for all immediate neighbours to keep their animals indoors during the show, and ensure they have a safe area where they feel more at ease.

Yes. Flash Fireworks has a $20 million public liability policy that remains claim-free.

Yes. In Victoria, fireworks are classed by law as a type of explosive and they can only be used by licensed pyrotechnicians or people under their direct supervision. Flash Fireworks has the appropriate licence, as required by WorkSafe, and only licensed pyrotechnicians detonate our displays.

Flash Fireworks takes care of this on your behalf. We obtain all necessary permits and approvals required for the safe and legal discharge of fireworks in the relevant jurisdiction. This includes WorkSafe, the local council, shire and other relevant bodies, such as the fire authority. WorkSafe require a minimum of 7 days notice, but other affected bodies may require longer notice periods, so contact us as early as possible.
